In theory, Planted Cuisine is against the very idea of recipes. We strongly believe and see recipes as a barrier for the home cook. To put it simply, if you follow recipes in the kitchen, that’s what you know how to do…follow recipes. What you don’t know how to do is cook. That might sound a bit harsh, though it happens to be quite true.
If you’re following a recipe and something goes wrong, most home cooks don’t have the knowledge as to how to correct the error. Same goes for if you happen to be missing an ingredient from a recipe card or you follow it perfectly yet you aren’t happy with how it tastes, these are all situations where the average home cook won’t have the know how to proceed accordingly.
What happens, often, is discouragement and frustration. This is what we want to avoid. We want to empower you with the knowledge to be able to cook without recipes. Empowerment in your home kitchen is the freedom to be able to whip up whatever you might have in mind. Recipes should -in an ideal world- serve more as an inspiration point or starting point. Ideally, instead of thinking about recipes, we are simply looking at what is in season from our local farms and creating a dish around the most seasonal of offerings.
Most importantly, as a business built on the idea of food as medicine, optimal nutrient uptake, regenerative practices etc, nearly all recipes in many ways are in opposition to this very idea. Nutrient rich foods are locally grown and seasonal, which means they are ever changing. Most recipes aren’t designed to help encourage seasonal, local eating…or if they are, they are only useful during the period of time when those vegetables are growing. This is why all of our recipes have the built in feature of showing you how to easily substitute out ingredients for what is locally available to you.
It is our overall goal to empower you with the skills to be able to cook in season, in the moment and without the need to fall back on recipes. So we really see our recipes more as templates and a way to showcase how many different ingredients can easily be substituted in and out while still having the overall flavor profile you’d expect, if not a more diverse and interesting one.
The way in which our recipes are constructed are somewhat unique, please read below to understand what sets our recipes apart from the rest of the bloggersphere:
Most importantly, all of our recipes will include a substitution section. We see all of our recipes as guidelines that should be changed to include whatever is in season where you live. In all of our recipes, almost every ingredient will have multiple suggestions as to how to replace certain ingredients. This is critical for helping to not only support local, but also support your health and immune system by getting more nutrients.
You can easily skip the “fluff” and immediately download our recipe cards. Everyone (us included!) are annoyed by the typical food blogger’s massive, rambling recipe posts. While we like to share our knowledge about each recipe in regards to health benefits, along with sourcing recommendations, we will always include a one click download of the recipe itself. These will be pdf documents that will almost always be one page, printer/viewer friendly. We want access to our recipes to be easy and straightforward!
All of our content is free and perhaps most importantly, ad free. We want our content to be as accessible as possible to everyone. That said, if you are able to and are enjoying our content, we would love your support! A ton of time, resources and knowledge goes into the recipes.
